COVID-19's Effect on Varsity Students
COVID-19 Regulations Taking Its Toll on Varsity Students

The regulations that came along with the stages of lockdown
costed people’s livelihoods, businesses, and the economy of the country. Amongst
those people who were affected by COVID-19 regulations were varsity students. Students had to change their normal way of studying due to adhering to the rules of COVID-19,
protocols had to be followed throughout their course of study. They had to change their normal way of study and adjust to the current way of studying.
To some of the students these regulations became an advantage since they have to do all the learning, studying, and writing virtually. During lockdown most of the students were forced to do all their work by using computer technology through the internet where physical contact between students and lectures was prohibited. “The syllabus and the curriculum were decreased to accommodate everyone because there is no time since we have to do everything virtually” said one of the students from TUT.
Even though to some it was beneficial, to some it was a
disadvantage since they had to have internet access to attend classes and write
their summative tests. During some of the levels of lockdown students were advised
to go back home and no students were allowed to be at school premises.
It was evident that some students were not privileged enough
to have internet access since they lived in places where there are network
problems and no appropriate devices to access the internet. “It really affected
me to an extent that when I have online classes I can’t really focus because
you know how students are, you get in an online class then the next thing you’re
being removed from the class the other is the lecture is too fast or there is
no signal at all” said Thamsanqa Qaluva from TUT.
