Doctor faces sexual harassment accusations

A doctor from the Dr George Mukhari Hospital in Ga- Rankuwa is being accused of sexually harassing a patient during their physical examination.

According to the statement made by the victim, the incident took place on the 24^th of July 2021 at the hospital when she came for her treatment. The accused doctor whom his name could not be disclosed was then reported to the CEO of the hospital by the victim’s father, and they were assured that the doctor was suspended from the       hospital pending his disciplinary hearing.

To the victims shock the doctor is back at the hospital and is still in contact with patients whilst he was not given a disciplinary hearing date “That one for us was a shock because we did not expect that to happen especially for me because  I also work with labour matters but their reason was that they found that they can’t suspend him with pay, because the law says they have to pay him because he will be doing nothing outside and then get paid. Their reason was not good enough because what about the safety of the patients” said the victim’s father regarding the matter.

Today is the day where the doctor will be given the date of his disciplinary hearing and the members of the community along with the group called the GAC (GaRakuwa Against Crime) came in numbers and met outside of the hospital to protest and to offer their support to the victim. According Koketso to the member of the GAC the hospital said they don’t have a policy that deals with such cases, and this is why they didn’t know how to address the matter.

The accused doctor is now expected to have his disciplinary hearing on the 30^th of November 2021 at the Dr George Mukhari hospital.
